Mya is a 10 year-old, female, spayed Pug. Mya presented to Ranson Animal Hospital for evaluation of her narrow nose folds (stenotic nares). Her owner's had noticed Mya was whistling when she breathed, was sneezing a lot, and had a hard time catching her breath while walking. Mya was determined to be in good health (no cardiac problems were noted) on physical exam. A blood panel was submitted to evaluate Mya's internal organs before surgery was considered.
Mya's lab panel was normal and she was scheduled for surgery to correct her narrow nasal passages.
Mya underwent a 45-minute surgery during which wedges of her external nasal folds were removed to open her nasal passages. Surgery was routine and Mya recovered uneventfully. She was discharged later that afternoon on pain relievers, antihistamines, and antibiotics.
3 weeks after surgery Mya was enjoying long walks with minimal breathing difficulties and her owner's reported that her nightly snoring was much reduced!
